My Grandpa

Published by Jason M at 8:41 pm under Poetry

He’s my hero,
But not that super hero type.
You read in the stories
With all their glorious hype.
He wasn’t that kind,
So to create a sight
Pulled buildings apart
To display his might.

No, he was a true hero
He didn’t have to fake it
He gave of himself
Instead of trying to take it.
He placed others first,
And put himself last.
He made it his goal,
And his life-ending task.

Are you a hero?
If you could ask him today?
Standing there quietly,
This is what you’d hear him say.
“No I’m not
I’m just an ordinary man
Going about life
Doing the best that I can.
Following my God
My Lord and my King
I can hardly wait
To hear the angels sing.”

Yea, he’s my hero
And he may be gone, but even yet
I hope to follow
That example that he set.
So on he lives
Embedded in our hearts.
This is not the end
But where a new beginning starts.
