I just finished this book in two evenings, couldn’t put it down. It’s almost uncanny how Joel’s books seem to alway fit events prior to them actually happening. This is how his book The Last Jihad was, it was written prior to 9/11 but talked about Islamic terrorists using a suicide plane to attack a Presidential motorcade. This book is no disappointment either and brings to light the current events in Egypt and the Middle East. It talks about the Mahdi (Twelfth Imam) returning and ushering in a new Islamic Caliphate. A great read.

Here is my latest read. If your intrigued by espionage and technology you will love this book. It is a long read, all 548 pages, but definitely worth it. Robert Wallace’s credentials are impeccable as a former Director of the CIA’s Office of Technical Service, and H. Keith Melton is an internationally recognized author, historian, and expert on clandestine technology. The book is well researched. The books covers the story of the famous CIA spy Oleg Penkovsky in the Soviet Union. It talks about the Bay of Pigs invasion, and all the way to some of the CIA Ops in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The book primarily covers the OTS (Office of Technical Service) and the OSS (Office of Strategic Services). It doesn’t go into operations as much, but that is fine if your a technical whiz bang.
It demonstrates the courage and skill of our Special Forces units, and how their training and preparation gave them the advantage on the battlefield. It is a good read that will give you inside knowledge on how our Special Forces operate. When it comes to the Special Forces our taxpayer dollars are well spent. Below is a link to a New York Times story that covers the same story.

The second book is Silent Warrior. Marine Sniper places a different twist to the Vietnam War then generally portrayed by the main stream media. There were many genuine American heroes in that war and Carlos is one of them. Not all of our soldiers were “baby killers” and incidents like the My Lai Massacre were not the norm. This book covers Carlos’ early life and Vietnam deployment. It tells of Carlos pioneering efforts in the art of sniper warfare, and covers many of his most exiting missions. This is definitely a must read.

My Grandfather’s Son is well written memoir of the life of Clarence Thomas. Clarence Thomas is a personal hero of mine, but even more so after reading this book. Usually biographies are not page turners for me, but this one was. Clarence Thomas overcame the limitations of segregation, racism, and affirmative action to live the American Dream, and be all he could be. This is a very inspirational book and is well worth your time.
