Vern Buchanan’s response to my email on Cap and Trade

Published by under Politics

I sent an email to Vern Buchanan back on June 26th regarding the “Crap and Tax”  Bill (HR 2454). Below is the response I received from him several minutes ago.

Dear Mr. Mullett:

Thank you for contacting me and expressing your opposition to H.R. 2454, the Waxman-Markey global warming bill.  I appreciate hearing from you on this topic.

I wanted to let you know that on June 26, 2009, I voted against the bill, which would kill jobs, hurt the economy and raise energy costs for every family in America.  H.R. 2454 passed the House on a 219-212 vote.
This flawed legislation would create a new bureaucracy to oversee the government’s mandate to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is another government over-reach on the heels of unwarranted bailouts, reckless spending and spiraling debt.

By imposing tough new requirements and increased costs on manufacturers, the bill puts American companies at a competitive disadvantage with manufacturers in other countries like China, India and Mexico. The bill would drive jobs overseas as our country struggles to climb out of a deep recession. The last thing we need in the midst of a deep recession is higher costs for consumers and small businesses.

The 1,200-page bill was still being rewritten hours before it was voted on by the House.  Washington is broken, and nowhere is this more evident than in the fact that complicated, far-reaching legislation was brought to the floor when no member could possibly have read it ahead of time.

Although the bill passed the House, I am hopeful it will be carefully reviewed and modified by the Senate in a bipartisan fashion.

Again, thank you for contacting me.  Please do not hesitate to let me know if I can be of any assistance to you in the future.

Sincerely,
Vern Buchanan
Member of Congress

Sorry Vern…

Published by under Politics

I do need to state that I did finally get in touch with Vern Buchanan’s office, and the gentleman that answered the phone said that Vern would be voting a “Hard No” on the Cap and Trade Bill. Sounded like he was a little frustrated, though. I am sure that they were getting inundated with phone calls all day.

My Email to Vern Buchanan

Published by under General

Below is a email that I wrote to Vern Buchanan after I was unable to reach his office by phone since the line was constantly busy.

Vote “NO!!” on Cap and Trade. If you vote yes on this bill I will do all in my power to get you voted out of office in the next election cycle. I am a registered Republican and have voted for Mr. Buchanan in the past despite some reservations on his true conservative credentials. I am a blogger and an individual that is respected for my political views and I influence many of my friends and family on their votes. I will do everything in my power to get them to vote against Mr. Buchanan if he votes for this bill. The point of this bill is simply to extend the power of the Federal Government, generate new tax revenue, and to destroy the capitalist system that has made this country great. This bill will do nothing to curb “Global Warming”. Global temperatures have actually flatlined over the past 8 years despite a bill like this not being in effect. Carbon Dioxide is not a pollutant, and if Mr. Buchanan thinks so he should stop exhaling. Thank You.
